"The Berlin wall had to fall, but today's world is no fairer"

Din câte se poate înţelege, chiar Gorbaciov este autorul acestui text, întocmit pentru conferinţa Forului Politic Mondial (World Political Forum conference) Twenty Years After: The World(s) Beyond the Wall, desfăşurată în Italia, 9-10 octombrie 2009. Mihail Gorbaciov se menţine în forma unui critic responsabil al actualului sistem "global", girat de S.U.A., care riscă să împingă civilizaţia către limitele indecenţei. După cum observa şi un internaut comentator (hermionegingold), ultimul preşedinte al U.R.S.S. pare mai bine pregătit ca om politic decât mulţi dintre actualii lideri de pe "scena mondială".
